Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars officially made music history.
The RIAA announced today that the worldwide smash "Uptown Funk" (RCA) has achieved Diamond certification. A triumph so elusive that the duo are one of only 10 acts ever to achieve Diamond sales for a song.
"Uptown Funk" is the 13th Diamond song in RIAA history and the most recently released. The certification comes less than two years since the song's release by RCA Records in November 2014.
The RIAA's Gold & Platinum Program was launched in 1958, but expanded in 1999 to include the Diamond Award, which honors U.S. certifications of 10 million or more copies of an album or single.
"Uptown Funk" is one of only five songs to certify 11X Diamond or higher in the history of the awards, by racking up 12,422,016 in downloads and 938,694,569 audio streams in the U.S. And those numbers nearly pale in comparison to the video views, which totaled over 1.9 BILLION on Vevo.
Stay tuned for an update of our "Funk Watch 2016."
